WEEK 8: Baroque Period

According to my research that Baroque art, was characterized by a focus on asymmetry, mass and space.  It also uses light and color in a new, dramatic way. Art theory develops during this time, promotes ideas of order and organization as well as instinctive immediate emotions.

The work that distinguishes the Baroque period is stylistically complex, even contradictory. I think, the art expression that some artists used showed that on each figure’s face signified the emotional factor of the event, seems they wanted the audience to feel the same emotion.  Aside from that the intense of being realistic and natural with their art work would be the remarkable of all work of arts. The intensity of the emotion portrayed here is really what characterizes this Baroque form.

The Baroque is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, architecture, literature, dance and music.  Maybe those are the most striking characteristics of Baroque Art.
Jan Vermeer, Woman Holding a Balance, 1664
Rembrandt, Self-Portrait, 1630

According to John Rupert Martin, the Baroque artists had an “urge to expand range of sensual experience and to deepen and intensity the interpretation of feelings.”  He also said that those emotions would be sought in an artwork of some painters like Rembrandt’s self-portrait of 1630. It showed how lively and spontaneous emotions express in his portrait.” And the painting of Jan Vermeer, Woman Holding a Balance, 1664 which the scale in the woman's hand is also perfectly balanced, and the entire painting reflects the expressiveness of her. Those artworks had a great sense of realistic treatment of the subject matter. The expression of each figure’s face signifies the emotional factor of the event and seems as wanted the audience to feel the same emotion. And that would be relevant to present expression of art. Most of arts made by an artist today would really emphasize also the great sense of realistic treatment of the subject matter.

Probably the intense of being realistic and natural with their art work would be the attribute that I can use to create my artwork.

WEEK 7: The Renaissance Art

As I have read that Renaissance means “rebirth.    For me the most striking characteristics of Renaissance Art was proved to be a time of great transformation of the artist as they came to occupy the different place in the society, for art was becoming more than just a craft. Workshops were also abundant, where a master paid to take on apprentice to teach practical skills in the field.  Like other eras one thing that made them popular was their Arts. During this period most of their art was made for commissions or religious reasons.

In terms of expression in Renaissance art, it is important to remember that this was a time when art was being brought back to life. The artist expertise take their themes from classical literature" and religious sources, "and gain emotional power by representing a number of people reacting to the central event portrayed. Most of the artists uses many ancient sources and speaks of the expressive nature of art during that time. In terms of art they break down the visible world into its basic form:  line, shape, color, space and texture. An artist refines ideas that have already been formulated and lays out a guideline for painters to follow. Their expression of arts seems to understand the importance of movement in terms of expression as the artists has spent a great deal of time observing and studying the matter. According to some artists during this period said that the viewers will be moved by the clearly demonstrated feelings of the figures that are portrayed through the movements of the body. Because this expression is so important, painters must know about all movements of the body, and how to reflect the precise emotion of the figure without confusing the viewer. They believes that nature plays a great role as it is from nature that these emotions come. As I have noticed that most of today’s artist had the same way of expression of art during that period.

The Renaissance artists accurately portrayed and reflect the inner emotions and feelings of the figures and subjects of their works so I think this is the influence that I can attribute the way I create in my own designs and artworks.

WEEK 6: The influence of Christian Art

Base on the research, during Christian era had been shown that most of their art was considerably as a sacred art produced in an attempt to illustrate, supplement and portray in form the principles of Christianity. Most of Christian groups have used art to some extent.  The Images of Jesus and narrative scenes from the Life of Christ are their most common subjects in art. Their style as well as their techniques used should also base on the bible scriptures.  The design factor of their artwork should inspire and educate people in its meaning.
During this era the work of arts are relevant to a kind of spiritually inspired art.  Artists of this period have been recognized to the realism in images of their sculptures. When it come to their architectural design like their churches were great and had dominant features. Numerous churches scattered across the Christian world, one of the famous is Basilica di San Pietro, Rome. A basilica is a designation for an important church building. A basilica is designated by the pope this is the highest permanent designation for a church building.
For me their predominant styles and subject matter of this era had a huge impact on the history of Christian art. Their excellent and creative geniuses in their divinely work of arts were inspired the principle of being a Christian.
As an amateur illustrator or artists I always inspired  and I  have a challenges to  create arts  to show how I can express the clearer view of what is on my mind.
Yes It is true that I can find some techniques  by looking at the style of other artists, but  as much as I can , I want  my art creation shall  base  on my own style. I admit also that all we've learned from different eras would be a great helped for us to make more attractive arts. Like art in the Christian era, it does really have a great influence in my personal style in creating designs and artworks.  I greatly appreciate the beauty of their arts.  I can surely use their style and technique in my future work of arts.

WEEK 5: Creation of Ancient and Classical Arts

We all know that art was already existed a thousand years ago.  Just like God created us. We considered as the perfect masterpiece He ever made. He did very well in molding us.  Same as God gave us talents to create something and express our own inner feelings through art.  Like what ancient and classical art done by the people during their time.

Let me say that, those facts  about  Ancient  and  Classical Arts  were proven of  their being famous in its  uniqueness  because during early period of time  they’ve done a lot of Arts that showed us  the greatness  and impressive  artistic style .  My most  striking impression on their Arts is  their  uniqueness that revealed from their own creativity in Arts. . Every detailed of masterpiece had a creation of meaningful art.  Maybe they allowed themselves to express their inner thought and feelings through their art creation. They show their imaginative way of thinking through Art by using natures in a very meaningful way.
Yes I believe that these two eras of art have an influence of my own personal style as an artist. In fact, I personally admire the realistic of their work of art that’s why it boosts my confidence to create my arts into realism.
My most interest predominant artistic style and subject matter is the creation of “Venus of Willendorf” because it was carved of stone and it is highly abstracted and exaggerated. I also like the “Bust of Queen Nefertiti “because this is one of the most beautiful works of art in this Ancient period. In the classical period I like the artistic style of the “temple of Athena in Parthenon” and Colosseum. I also like the sculptures of the Greek God and Goddesses because it is one of my favorite in the discussion of our history class when I was in high school.
During the two eras, maybe it was not easy to create artworks because through their creation showed that it was made by their hands. And one thing that really amaze is that they have done their creation using their imaginative way of thinking in a very meaningful art. Maybe they allowed themselves to express their inner thought and feelings through their art creation. Their talents in creating arts have been proven.  Their phenomenal Ancient and Classical Arts was truly evidence ……. how great they are as an ARTIST of their time.  As I have said that when it comes to different field of arts, their creativity revealed its uniqueness.  It made me inspired so as much as possible I do my own artworks in my own unique style.
I believe that everyone must continue to search, learn and know more about how Ancient and  Classical Arts served as one of the important part of history and Let their contributed artworks will be an inspiration and realize that it continually be a part of history of today’s generation and  to  next generation especially in line of artistic world.

WEEK 4: Realistic Art--Beyond my Imaginations

In my point of View, I believe that all artists whether they are amateur, professionals or even the great artists were began their creativity through a particular alteration or distorted art.  Maybe they became professional because of their untiring determination how to improve themselves or just expanded their skills to become accessible and showed alternative way of describing visual experiences as an artist’s….. Until they learned to make a realistic image or realistic art.

As an artist....I admit that I have done a lot of distorted art when I was a beginner. The pulse of my little hands seemed not in control the way it moves especially when I've done some fine  free  strokes and started to drawn my piece of art, so expected  the result …..would be a distorted art.  Naturally I had a feeling of being disappointed of what I have done since I wanted to make it in a realistic one.

So, If  they will  ask me….which do prefer realistic art, alteration or distorted art….Of course, I preferably choose the realistic art. You will notice that most of my artworks are human figures.  At first I was afraid to make a realistic image but I thought, “How do I know my capability, If I will not try it.” That was a big challenge again. I knew that realistic art is one of the hardest things to do. But I said to myself that "there is no harm in trying.” Actually, I might find it hard but through my dedication and fighting spirit I have done it well.

Now, It so happen that I can draw whatever I like especially if I’m in the mood. I can draw more and more…. even in my spare time or not.  When I’m holding a pen, pencil or anything else that can make me inspire to draw… expect for a creation of art…..I’ll promise to do it with my spirit of my own artistic way and beyond my imagination.

I must say that…. I considered myself as a dreamer artist…… I want to see myself as capable of doing realistic art in many ways so that I can used it in my future profession. Until now I continue to pray and give thanks to God for my gifted hands and most of all to my gifted talents.

WEEK 3: Extemporaneous art

I have a lot of experienced to share when it comes to impromptu art.  If I’m not mistaken, during high school I became representative of our school to joined in a competition which organized by San Pablo Lions Club.  That was my very first experienced of somewhat like an impromptu art per se.  As I have remembered, the event organizer had given us time to create artwork through poster making related to the theme which they had given to us.  We utilized pastel oil as medium in our way of creativity which made me trembled because that time I didn't know yet how to apply the stroke and techniques using oil pastel.  I was so nervous because most of my opponents were veterans in that type of contest.  I admit that my confidence was so weak to the fact that I was on the middle of under time pressure.  I didn't know where to start and what kind of artistic way should I draw which may lead to me in a possible winning piece.  It became difficult for me to use it and seemed lack of time to finish my entry. I didn't win the contest but no matter what…. at least I've done my part and It was an honor for me as a competitor representative of our school that time.
My winning entry in 3rd San Pablo Comics Festival

From then on…. I started to develop my skills and talents in various field of arts. Most of all….. one thing that made me realized is that….. Those challenges gave an inspiration to boast my confidence because when I get there I used to do it in manner of expressing my ability in art….. EXPRESS THE STYLE….  I MAKE IN MY OWN UNIQUE STYLE.
First Place in Postermaking

I thought that there’s no big deal weather you’re in a competition or not the important is we must show on what is on our mind then express our fantastic ideas in our own way of creativity.

I discovered also that once you create you can feel the pleasure in doing art. One thing I assure of is that… ART IS REALLY FUN…. in the sense that you can visualize what is on your imagination through artworks.
All I can say is…….We must learn a new skill, more practice and training, build confidence to improve our works,  believe in ourselves, most of all share our talents that GOD given to us. That’s why…..  “ IN SPITE OF THOSE CHALLENGES I WON’T STOP TO EXPRESS MY CAPABILITY IN LINE OF ART.”  Go…. Go… go…. Fun… fun… fun… lets use our talents. (Let’s do the RUBADABANGO!! HAHAHA)

WEEK 2: REBIRTH ERA

Recently our professor discussed about an Overview of Art History. Actually this week our blogspot entry is about the best and most influential era of art and design. We have to choose and give our own opinion about it.  Definitely, one thing that comes first to my mind is the Renaissance period, being an influential era of all time because it was full of great changes as artists expanded their skills of making realistic images both in paint and sculpture.   Base on my research one art historian said, that the term “RENAISSSANCE “means “REBIRTH” used as a mark of an era of broad cultural achievement as result of renewed interest in the Greco-Roman Art.   The artistic treasures of the Greco-Roman antiquity inspired by Humanism, one can reach artistic greatness wisdom and enlightenment.  During this artistic period most of the Renaissance works of art were produced.  Those artworks were painting, sculpture and decorative arts of that period of European history known as the Renaissance. One thing that made me amazed was the artistic developments and the contributions of such great artist like Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelangelo who inspired the term “Renaissance man.”

Pieta is a Michaelangelo's masterpiece during Renaissance period
During this period they are known with their great quality when it comes in artistic design. Like for example in painting, they have a linear quality of Renaissance painting, they showed the clarity of which every detail is perfected and characterized by soft, deep shadows and greater awareness of the texture and handling of the paint itself, that is why high Renaissance is definitely my favorite painting style. There is so much rhythm and harmony in the paintings.

Aside from that they have an awesome sculpture, and other art were great and has a beautiful vibes.  All I can say is…. Thumbs up to those great artist in the History of Arts because they provided those who would follow the techniques and procedure that still trend and continues to this day. ^_^
